In Scotland it is very risky to venture near large expanses of water. Not only because of the danger of falling in.The water harbours a malevolent spirit known as the Kelpie.
............................................................
The Kelpie appears on land in the guise of a magnificent horse, sometimes female, but mostly male; the horse will be be decepetively friendly and placid until the human climbs on to his back. Then, the Kelpie's true nature reveals itself..Without waiting the creature gallops straight into the freezing water dragging the rider to their death.
What a comforting thought.
I am sure people can't wait to climb on and ride a horse they are not familiar with and that has just appear out of nowhere. Go back to sleep Goblin, it's OK! LOL Star
Hehe, Kelpie ledgends amuse me, since over here in Aussie-land, our most common sheepdog is a breed called the kelpie. Medium-small, lean, impossibly full of energy, friendly to a fault, the most exuberant dogs you'll ever meet. A menace in their own way, but definitely not sinister. The magestic water-horses in my mind's eye start wagging their tails and barking, which rather spoils the image. *g*
Resonant lol! if only the Kelpie was as harmless...
I should have added how much I like the Aussie Kelpie as a breed...however do not mistake this for crawling I'm incapable of such behaviour.
I must have lived in Scotland in a past life. I have had this terrible dream several times where I am standing in a sunny medow and a large gray hourse with a darker main and tail comes up to me and starts following me, nipping at my shoulder. I turn and face it, and although it is beautiful and seems gentle I feel ill at ease. Something compells me to mount it and it takes off like a bat out of hel and runs out over an icey lake, running along the water until it has reached the middle. Then it leaps like a dolphin and plunges us both under the surface. That's always when I wake up. I think I first had that dream when i was six or seven. At least now I know what it's called. Thanks. Freaky stuff, very freaky.
Weee, kelpies! they're so beautiful! i've always wanted one...the dog that is.Now, what about the other legend written in that beautiful song. The Silkie,...not sure of the spelling. I'm not sure if it's irish or scottish in origen. But i liked the song.
